PEANUTS

Peanuts, fisticas, groundnuts–many names, one world-famous product. Peanuts are actually edible pulses. They are used in many ways. They are used to make peanut butter, roasted nuts and confectionery. They are also used in a variety of salty and sweet snacks.

Peanuts stand out for their properties and nutritional value compared to other nuts. They have the most protein of all nuts. They also have a record amount of vitamin B3 (niacin). They are a valuable source of fat (mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids), fibre and vitamins and minerals (especially potassium). In the pink-red skin of the nuts, we find polyphenols, tocopherols and flavonoids, which have the ability to neutralise free radicals.
